What is Intelli-Gel?

IntelliGEL is a “gelastic” co-polymer. It has a soft rubbery feel, but unlike rubber it is unique in its ability to compress easily, yet return to original shape. IntelliGEL has “column buckling” construction. This results in a 50-80% reduction in pressure and a 200% increase in support compared to other mattress materials.

IntelliGEL is:

  • Inert- does not generate heat or cold

  • Hypo-allergenic- does not cause allergic reactions

  • Non toxic

  • Flame retardant- has a higher burning point then foam or other bedding materials

  • Extremely durable

What does IntelliGEL mean for you?

Spinal alignment and pressure relief are the essential ingredients for the sleep your body needs to feel well rested and refreshed in the morning. Until now modern bedding has almost exclusively used foam and spring combinations in order to combine support and pressure relief.  Adding a layer of IntelliGEL inside a high quality spring/foam or foam mattress has completely changed what a mattress can do for any sleeper.

Intelli-bed mattresses are firm enough to provide alignment for your spine; when your spine is aligned properly* your backs muscles can stop working.  Sleeping without alignment results in back muscles having to support the spine all night. Overworked back muscles will stress a healthy spine and aggravate any existing back problem.  Sleeping on gel allows your back muscles to rest while you sleep.

IntelliBED mattresses immediately relieve pressure wherever needed to prevent loss of blood circulation and the resulting tossing and turning. Sleeping on a surface that causes tossing and turning means deep restorative sleep is being interrupted each time your body turns in an effort to get comfortable.  Sleeping on gel allows you to remain in deep restorative sleep without being interrupted.

Sleeping on a gel mattress maximizes the length and quality of sleep while allowing back muscles to rest. In fact, if you’re not sleeping better with reduced or eliminated back pain in 120 days we will pick the mattress up and refund your money, end of story. While 3 percent of people do return their mattresses; you have an excellent chance that gel will have you sleeping well and living better.

1. How does the gel work?

As the hand demonstrates in the picture above, the gel columns buckle where needed to give pressure relief.  The graph below shows that gel buckles instantly; dropping pressure where we stick out and need pressure relief the most, our hips and shoulders.  The recessed areas of the body remain supported regardless of body position which results in an aligned spine* as pictured below.

2. What about back pain?

The back is a complex part of our body; it has a great deal of work to do, and if it is not working well, pain can be the result.  Gel enables spinal alignment allowing the back muscles to rest and repair.  Sleeping on a mattress that does not provide spinal alignment causes the body to use back muscles to support the spine all night.  The result is tight muscles that stress the spine due to inelasticity and/or spasm.  An inadequate mattress can cause or exacerbate existing back problems.

3. How does gel compare to memory foam?

Before gel, there was memory foam; this article compares the two.

5. What can better sleep do?

Sleep is one of the single most important ingredients for good overall health. Whether it’s getting over a cold or the need for the mind to dream; sleep is a critical element in obtaining good health.  Here are a few links to get you started.

6. Which IntelliBED is for me?

The simple design of the gel results in optimum pressure relief which allows the mattresses below to be built for regular sleepers as well as those with higher spinal alignment needs.

7. How durable is an IntelliBED?

Gel is a durable and extremely resilient material. See the Physical data sheet. Gel is located in the top portion of the mattress; the other components are the best available in the industry.

The Cornel Test

The cornel test above pounds a mattress with 230 lbs (104 kg) of force 100,000 times in one spot.   The allowable indentation for this test is 1’ ¾” (4.4 cm).  At the end of the test the IntelliBED was at just 22.8% of the way to failure with an indentation of 1.0 cm. Also, the IntelliBED was only 4% softer at the end of the test.  Interestingly, a mattress can soften up to 40% before it fails the test.

The Rollator Test

The Rollator test rolls a 230 lb (104 kg) hexagonal weight over the mattress 200,000 times.  The IntelliBED finished this test only 4.5% softer, and a 0.48cm indentation which is 18.8% of the way to the indentation failure of 1” (2.54cm).  In other words, test results that easily provide a meaningful twenty year warranty.

8. James’ experience sleeping on gel.

Sleeping on IntelliBED for one month:

“Prior to sleeping on gel I slept on a two year old high quality mattress that was quite comfortable.  I have no real back pain issues other than tired back muscles by the end of the day and the odd spasm due to my own fault.

Currently, I have been sleeping on the gel for five weeks.  The mattress is very comfortable. I can definitely tell that I am sleeping more solid, and my back does feel better at work.

The biggest thing I have noticed is that as time goes on I am feeling like I have more energy during the day. I have started waking up on my stomach which seems to be indicating that my body is still getting used to sleeping on the gel. I am sleeping better, but if the current trend of feeling better rested continues; I will be extremely impressed.  Let’s see what happens”.

Sleeping on IntelliBED for seven months:

“I know this is going to probably sound corny; I love my gel mattress!”

“The cumulative effect of sleeping on gel has been that I have more energy.  The pressure relief has really improved my sleep quality; during the night I don’t get woken up by turning. I sleep in one position for a long time and I don’t wake up feeling like a “slept wrong” anymore.  Also, I used to gets pins and needles in my arms and that has not happened since I have been on the gel.”

“My back is definitely less prone to pain during the day.  Before sleeping on gel I would sometimes get some muscle pain towards the end of the day if I was in the garden or working on the personal computer; now my back feels good all the time. “

“I am so glad to be sleeping on gel because I feel better all the time.   I have been very much reminded of the importance of sleep, and it is a personal joy to hear our customers say they are sleeping and feeling better.”

9. Sandra’s experience sleeping on gel.

Sleeping on IntelliBED for one month:

"Prior to Gel I slept on a high-end foam bed.  I had neck problems and numbing in my arms during the night.  I experienced some sciatica pain and a lot of tossing and turning."

"I have been sleeping on gel for around 5 weeks.  In the beginning I found that the mattress felt too hard, but I am tossing and turning less and most of the numbing in my arms is gone.  I am still having some sciatica and neck pain but its slowly going away.  The changes over the last 5 weeks have been gradual and accumulated; small changes that are affecting my general well being.  I am sleeping deeper and feel more rested then I have felt in years."

Sandra Ware

Sleeping on IntelliBED for seven months:

“I have found over the last seven months that the gel mattress gets more comfortable.  I sleep deeper and longer and wake up feeling more refreshed.  On weekends I am able to sleep in!”

“The numbing in my arms and neck pain is gone, and my sciatica pain is also no longer present.  I still do get occasional back pain depending upon personal activities but it quickly goes away now.”

“I have done some traveling since I have been on the gel mattress and I have definitely looked forward to returning home and back to my IntelliBED and a great nights rest. “
